“I Just Need to Know They’re Okay”
Pet Loss and the Afterlife: How Animal Intuitives Help You Hear from Your Pet
By Melissa | Animal Intuitive, Energy Healer & Holistic Pet Health Coach
One of the most tender requests I hear in my work is,
“Can you tell me if they’re okay?”
It comes from the quiet space in someone’s heart that is broken open after the loss of a beloved animal companion. And I understand it deeply — not just as a practitioner, but as someone who has experienced that ache myself.
What Happens in a Session After an Animal Passes
Sessions with animals who have crossed over are sacred. They often begin in stillness, with a sense of reverence — and then, something shifts. Sometimes it’s a rush of warmth, a familiar image, a wordless wave of love. Animals often come through with details only their person would know — a favorite toy, a specific place you used to sit together, or even the quirky way they used to greet you at the door.
What’s incredible is that they don’t dwell on their illness or passing. More often than not, they want to share love. They want you to know they’re still connected to you — just in a different form now.
Sometimes they show me symbols: butterflies, blue skies, or gentle streams. Other times, they send sensations — a lightness, a calm, even joy. It’s not about “proving” anything; it’s about feeling the bond that still exists, beyond the physical.
A Session I’ll Never Forget: Champ
One of the most moving sessions I’ve ever had was with an Alaskan Malamute named Champ.
His dad had wanted to connect for a long time, but guilt and fear held him back. He wasn’t sure he deserved to connect — he carried this heavy belief that he’d failed Champ, or that Champ might even be angry with him.
He was also nervous because he only had one photo — and it was tattered and torn. He worried it wouldn’t be enough. But what I always remind people is that this work isn’t about a perfect photo or a physical object. This is a heart connection. A soul-to-soul conversation. The bond doesn’t disappear when the body does.
And Champ had already made contact before our session even started. I felt him come through so clearly — excited, vibrant, and ready. I knew it was going to be a special experience.
Within moments of our connection, Champ showed me an image of himself standing on a high cliff, howling. When I shared this, his dad gasped. He told me, “He was part wolf. His father was actually a wolf — I never told you that.”
It made perfect sense. Champ was showing me his true spirit — wild, free, surrounded by cliffs, waterfalls, and beauty. He even had a Tibetan scarf around his neck, flowing in the wind.
That detail hit home. Tibet was a place that held deep meaning for his dad — a place where he’d explored his own spirituality. To see Champ connected to that sacred space was incredibly healing.
We talked for a long time. Champ had so much to say. He missed his dad and was so happy to be connecting after all this time. There was no anger — only love, gratitude, and joy.
By the end, his dad said he felt a deep sense of relief and peace. He told me he wished he had reached out sooner, but he was so afraid Champ was mad at him.
It was the opposite.
Champ had been waiting with an open heart. He was never angry — just ready, howling into the wind, sending his love across the veil.

What People Are Afraid Of — And What I’ve Seen
So many people hesitate to book a session because they’re afraid of what might happen — or not happen.
“What if they don’t come through?”
“What if they’re upset with me?”
“What if I made the wrong decision?”
These fears are so normal. Grief is heavy, and doubt often rides alongside it.
But here's what I've learned from years of doing this work: your animal knows your heart. They don’t judge you. They remember the love. They see the totality of your time together, not just the last chapter.
And in every session I’ve done — truly, every single one — the animal has come through. Sometimes subtly, sometimes with surprising clarity. But they always show up.
The Message Beneath It All: “I’m Still With You”
Animals don’t fear death the way we do. They teach us that love is not bound to the body. That connection can stretch beyond time. And that healing is possible, even after loss.
When I share their messages, I often witness a visible shift in the person receiving them — a softening, a sigh of relief, a tearful smile. Because what they’re really hearing, in so many words, is:
“I’m okay. I love you. I’m still with you.”
If You’re Ready
If you’re missing your companion and wondering if they have anything to share — or if you just want to feel close to them again — a session may bring you the peace and clarity you’re longing for.
You don’t have to navigate the grief alone.
They’re not gone. They’re just a whisper away. 💫
